When is the best time to take my newborn photos?
The best time to take newborn photos is within the first 5 to 14 days of your baby’s life. Experts often refer to this period as the “newborn stage.” With that being said, here are a few detailed reasons why the newborn stage is the best time for your newborn pictures.
1. Sleepiness: Newborns tend to sleep a lot during their first two weeks. This makes it easier for photographers to pose and capture adorable photos without them being fussy or awake.
2. Flexibility: At this stage, your baby is more flexible. This also allows for gentle poses and styles without any form of resistance.
3. Poses: Many of the most popular and beautiful newborn picture poses and ideas, such as the curled-up position or the adorable froggy pose, are much easier to achieve during the newborn stage.
4. Freshness: Your newborn’s skin will be very fresh, delicate, and charming at this stage. This, of course, would make the pictures look more attractive and intriguing.
5. Simplicity: Lastly, during this stage, you will be bonding with your child, allowing for the capture of a genuine mother-child connection.
According to experts, babies are usually sleepier, more flexible, and easier to pose during the newborn stage of their lives, which typically falls between 1 to 27 days. However, most photographers prefer to capture your newborn pictures when your baby is between 5 and 14 days old.
When is the best time to take my twin newborn pictures?
When it comes to taking pictures of your twin newborns, the best time to do so is very similar to photographing a single newborn. Thus, you should aim to capture those precious moments within the first 5 to 14 days of their lives.
At this period of their lives, they will be very cooperative and flexible, making it easier to pose and photograph them. However, I would recommend considering factors such as their health and temperament before booking their newborn photography session.
Is 3 weeks too old for newborn photos?
Although the best window for newborn photos is when they are in their first 5 to 14 days, a 3-week-old child is not too old for newborn pictures. Babies change rapidly during their first few weeks, but there are still some opportunities for capturing beautiful images of your baby at 3 weeks old.
In fact, if you want newborn pictures showing your baby’s uniqueness and tiny features, I’d highly recommend waiting until the third week for their first photo session.
At 3 weeks old, your baby is likely to become more alert and less sleepy than during the first 5 to 14 days. This can make it a bit challenging for the maternity photographer to capture those classic and deeply asleep newborn poses.
However, the photographer would still be able to capture your little one’s adorable expressions and interactions. Therefore, I’d recommend focusing on pictures showing your baby’s unique personality, features, and interactions with family members at this age rather than opting for the traditional newborn poses.
Is 2 months too old for newborn photos?
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), a baby older than 28 days (4 weeks) is no longer considered a newborn. Therefore, at 2 months old, your baby is no longer “logically” considered a newborn, and the window for capturing traditional newborn photos has passed.
Newborn photography typically focuses on babies within the first 5 to 14 days of life when they are at their sleepiest and most flexible, allowing for those sweet poses. Nonetheless, you can still get beautiful and memorable images of your baby at 2 months old.
At this age, your baby will likely be more alert, interactive, and expressive, which can result in more charming and candid photos. In short, although the best time to take newborn photos is during the newborn stage, you can still capture beautiful images of your child at 2 months old.

Why should you take newborn photos?
Newborn photography provides a great way to capture and document the early days of your baby’s life and hold onto those precious memories.
Here are some reasons why you consider doing newborn photos:
1. For memory’s sake: They help create lasting memories of this special time in your life as a parent. Looking back at these photos can bring back the emotions, feelings, and joy of the moment.
2. Family bonding: A newborn photo session often includes shots with parents and siblings. It’s a beautiful way to bond and capture the love within your family.
3. Time flies: Babies grow incredibly fast, especially during the first few weeks of life. Newborn photography captures those fleeting moments and allows you to cherish them forever.
4. They can serve as heirlooms: High-quality newborn photos can become cherished family heirlooms, which you can pass down to the next generations.
5. They can serve as gifts: You can send your baby’s pictures as gifts to your loved ones.
In short, the best time for newborn pictures is during the first 5-14 days. However, you can still book a session even if you missed the window. It’s never too late to take pictures of your child.
