Primary Features
An Effective 24.2MP Full-frame CMOS Sensor And BIONZ X Image Processor
The a7 III camera features a back-illuminated 35mm full-frame CMOS image sensor along with a powerful BIONZ X image processing engine. The 24.2-megapixel back-illuminated sensor enhances the camera’s light collection ability and improves data transmission speed while minimizing digital noise to fine-tune details in every picture.
The sensor is combined with the BIONZ X image processing engine and front-end LSI to realize superb data processing speed along with the ability to click a 15-stop dynamic range at low ISO sensitivity values. These also improve the a7 III overall AF performance as well as its general functionalities.
Hybrid Autofocus System
The Sony a7C interchangeable lens camera has an evolved 4D-FOCUS system that features 693 phase-detection autofocus points, which cover approximately 93% of the image area, along with 425 densely placed contrast-detection AF points to improve focus and enable the device to track the subject with accuracy and speed.
This fast hybrid autofocus system can capture well-detailed and razor-sharp pictures of fast-moving subjects, regardless of the shooting situation.
The Sony α7 III also supports Eye detection AF, which can be used with AF-C Mode for fast, accurate, and effective eye detection and subject tracking when shooting still photographs. This effective eye detection technology makes the camera more suitable for portrait and wildlife photography.
5-axis Optical In-body Image Stabilization
The all-around performance a7 III is also equipped with an effective and high-precision in-body image stabilization which helps minimize the effects of camera shakes by up to 5.0 stops.
The IBIS system can compensate for up to 5 different types of camera shake encountered during handheld shooting of photos and videos.
This system allows photographers to record stunning, true-to-life color and edge-to-edge sharp movies and stills without a sturdy tripod or gimbal.
Hybrid Log-Gamma And S-Log3 Gamma
Sony’s full-frame mirrorless camera also supports A Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) picture profile which supports immediate HDR workflow.
Videos clicked in HLG picture mode will appear sharp, well-detailed, and true-to-life with reduced black crush or blown highlights capable of reducing gradation and detail without color grading.
The S-Log3 Gamma improves gradation from shadows to mid-tones and increases the dynamic range to approximately 14 stops.

Body Build And Design
The shooting device has a magnesium-alloy skeleton. This makes it more durable and rugged, and steady on the hands. However, it is lightweight and portable, weighing approximately 650g (including battery), according to CIPA testing standards.
In addition to its compact and portable design, the A7III is also weather-sealed. All the vital buttons and dials are dust and moisture-resistant, making the camera suitable for clicking in tough conditions. The number of screws securing the lens mount has been improved to ensure steadiness when shooting with heavy lenses.
Regarding the camera’s handling and controls, the grip has been improved to offer more comfort when holding the camera, and all the vital buttons are mannerly placed and easy to access. Thus, you click long hours without feeling tired. Generally, the camera’s body design and build are impressive.
Viewfinder And Display
It has a 2359k-dot XGA OLED Tru-finder electronic viewfinder with 0.78x eye-level magnification for bright and clear viewing. The EVF offers excellent resolution, contrast gradation, and corner-to-corner visibility.
In addition to the EVF, the a7 III also features a 3.0-type 922k-dot touch-screen tilting LCD monitor for easy framing and clicking.

Low Light Performance
In low light situations, the model was superb, thanks to the 5-axis image stabilization system, 24.2MP full-frame sensor, BIONZ X processor, and its faithful color reproduction performance.
Note: Sony’s a7 III doesn’t feature an in-built flash to compensate for light in dark situations. However, its IBIS system and other advanced processing features enable shooting at a high sensitivity of ISO51,200 (expandable to ISO 204,800 for stills) with minimal noise.
Speed Performance
The full-frame a7 III can shoot in continuous burst mode at up to 10 frames per second with AF/AE tracking and 8-frames per second when shooting with live-view mode. The camera also supports silent clicking at approximately 10fps with AF/AE tracking at maximum resolution.
Battery Performance
The battery’s life span per charge depends on the shooting mode employed by users when clicking photos or movies.
For photos: 610 shots with the viewfinder and 710 clicks with the LCD monitor, according to CIPA.
Video recording: In actual movie recording, it shoots for approximately 125 minutes with the LCD and 115 minutes with an electronic viewfinder. In continuous video shooting, the battery will last up to 200 minutes (VF) and 210 minutes per charge, according to CIPA.
