Primary Features And Extras
An Effective 20.4MP Live MOS Sensor and Dual Quad Core TruePic VIII Image Processors
The E-M1X features a 20.4MP high-speed image sensor that boasts an anti-reflective coating on both sides of its sealing glass, which helps to reduce flare and digital noise and enhances the image and video’s overall details and color qualities.
The dual quad-core image processors give the camera speed at 60fps, pinpoint autofocus accuracy, and help the M1X to capture and render images and videos with true-to-life color, vibrant gradations, and edge-to-edge sharpness. Both features work together.
121-Point All Cross-Type Phase-Detection AF + Contrast Detection AF And Intelligent Subject Detection AF
The interchangeable lens camera boasts 121 points of on-chip Phase Detection plus Contrast Detection AF, which make the model’s AF performance fast, accurate and impressive at any aperture. All 121 phase-detection points are cross-type, allowing dependable detection of vertical and horizontal lines for industry-leading precision in all types of lighting conditions and improved subject tracking.
The new intelligent subject detection AF system enables the camera to detect and lock onto subjects like trains, birds, and speeding formula cars, all by itself. You only need to compose and click!
Aside from these, the E-M1X has other unique AF features that are designed to suit shooting certain subjects under certain conditions. For instance, the new 25-point AF Target Mode helps track moving subjects like birds or small animals. Eye and Face Priority AF modes are also included.
5-axis In-body Sensor-Shift Image Stabilization
Furthermore, the OM-D E-M1X features an in-body, sensor-shift image stabilization which helps minimize the effects of camera shakes by up to 7 stops with any compatible lens. Therefore, you can confidently leave your gimbal or sturdy tripod at home or in the studio and capture stunning photos of rallying cars or running wildlife creatures without blurs.
Heat Dissipation And Field Sensor Systems
Basically, shooting 4K videos and capturing sequential shots at high speeds heat a camera. Therefore, Olympus equipped the M1X with a heat dissipation system to keep it cool and fully functional when clicking at high speed. In addition, it boasts a GPS, barometer, compass, and temperature sensor.
Note: Aside from these, the camera also has key creative shooting modes, which we have already discussed in the E-M1 Mark III review article.

Body Build And Handling
The M1X has a rugged splashproof, dustproof, and freezeproof magnesium alloy body, which accommodates working in harsh weather conditions, even when an external microphone, cable, or a set of headphones are attached. It weighs approximately 849g (body only).
The grip offers comfort, so users can shoot for hours without getting weary. All the vital controls, including the multi-selector joystick, control dial, and AFL/AEL button, have been duplicated for easy access when clicking in the horizontal or vertical orientation. Generally, this is one of the best full-frame cameras for outdoor shooting.
Viewfinder And Display
It has a high-speed 2.36m-dot eye-level electronic viewfinder (EVF) with approximately 100% frame coverage. The EVF’s design uses a four-element optical system for high clarity.
In addition, the E-M1X has a rear 3.0″ 1.037m-dot touch-sensitive LCD monitor featuring a vari-angle design. This makes it easier to compose and take shots from a variety of angles.
Image And Video Qualities
The stills and video qualities were stunning and epic due to the size of the sensor and powerful dual image processors. The camera supports recording 4k DCI (4096 x 2160) movies at approx. 24fps and UHD (3840 x 2160) movies at 30p. Full HD (1080p) and HD 720p are also supported.
Low Light Performance
In low-light situations, the M1X rendered color-rich stills and movies with edge-to-edge sharpness and minimal digital noise at high ISO sensitivity.
Battery Performance
The E-M1X has 2 high-capacity batteries that can be charged via USB in about 2 hours. The battery can record high-resolution videos for approximately 170 minutes under JEITA testing. When zoom and other operational functions are not used, it will last for approx. 350 minutes per charge.
For still images: you can click 870 shots, according to CIPA testing standards. When using quick sleep mode, it will click 2,580 images under Olympus testing conditions based on CIPA test standards.
Overall Speed Performance
When using the silent electronic, it can click high-resolution shots at approximately 60 frames per second with AF/AE Lock sequential shooting and about 18fps with AF/AE Continuous AF. When using the mechanical shutter, it can click continuously at a shooting rate of 15 fps for up to 103 consecutive raw files.
