The length and size of a wedding album are some of the most important factors to consider before ordering one. It is not a good idea to have a long wedding photo album because lengthy albums are usually less inspiring and sometimes difficult to understand. Regardless, we do not recommend short wedding albums.
Without a doubt, a wedding album is a special object. Thus, it must be planned carefully and filled with an appropriate number of pictures per spread or page. Stacking several copies of your wedding photographs on a page might make the storyline of your wedding album difficult to understand. It can also reduce the beauty of the photo album.
So, how many pictures should really be in a wedding album? The number of pictures in a wedding album varies from one couple to another and depends on the required number of pages and images selected to be put in the album.

Generally, an average conventional wedding album usually has between 25 to 40 pages featuring 2-4 photographs per spread.
However, a typical conventional 10 or 20-page wedding album usually contains between 50 to 100 pictures, featuring between 1 to 2 images per page.
Others can contain more than 100 wedding pictures, holding between 3-5 on each page. But several professional wedding photographers who provide albums do not usually exceed putting a total of 100 photographs in the wedding album.
However, there is no specific answer to how long a wedding album should be because the length and size of an album are dependent on several factors, which may include:
The Number Of Pictures Shot
Your wedding photographer might click up to 500 pictures from your wedding, depending on how big it was and the kind or number of ceremonial and fun activities that happened. In such a scenario, you might have between 200 to 300 wedding pictures you want to put in the album, influencing its length and size.
If you want to have more of your wedding prints put in the album, a big-size (probably 40 to 50 pages) photo album is best.
The Kind Of Story You Want To Tell
Some couples want their wedding albums to tell certain stories about their special days, while some do albums to preserve their memories. Perhaps you want your wedding album to reveal a beautiful story about your great day; in that case, we recommend making it short and straightforward. But if you do not care about making the album your wedding storybook, you can order a 50-page album or even more.

The Bride’s and Groom’s Preferences
Furthermore, how long a wedding photo album should be will also depend on the couple’s preference. Some couples prefer between 80 to a 100-page album, while others often desire something less.
This will include high-quality and well-edited clicks from your makeup session, wedding ceremony, reception, photos of your guests, cakes, hall or wedding venue, and other important events and items. But you can have more of your pictures, up to 300 or 400, put in the album if you want.
The Photographer And Your Budget
Ultimately, the length of a wedding album also depends on the wedding photographer’s album package and your budget for the album.
Some wedding photographers offer standard albums which might include between 10 to 20 pages, while others offer premium albums featuring more solid pages. Thus, the length ultimately depends on the photographer and your overall budget for the album.
However, if you are on a budget and cannot afford a traditional high-quality album of 100 pages, you might want to tell your wedding photographer to neatly arrange or put more than 4 of your related-wedding photos on a page. A good photographer will adhere to your requirements and provide you with the best possible storybook about your special day. But the storybook might lose creativity.
As a photographer, I have provided wedding albums bearing 6 to 7 portrait pictures clicked from the show on each spread.
This wouldn’t affect the quality of the pictures or album, but the storyline might be difficult to understand. Regardless, you will still have a wedding album to your name, which can be passed down to your children as a form of heirloom.
Your Desired Album Size
There are several wedding album sizes, such as 8cm x 8cm, 11cm x 12cm, and others. Each size has its own length, pictures, and page limitations.
For instance, the 8cm x 8cm wedding album features between 15 pages only, while the 11cm x 12cm album has more spread and pages for pictures. Some albums are designed to hold a lot more photos than others. Thus, the type or size of wedding album you want to purchase will determine how long it will be.

What Is A Good Size Wedding Album?
Practically, a good size album will be between 20 to 30 pages. People usually use the 30cm x 30cm (12x 12 inches) albums. Other popular sizes include 10×10 inches and 11×14 inches.
Nonetheless, we still recommend that:
- A 20-page, 8cm x 8cm wedding album should contain only 40 to 50 pictures, while only 50 to 60 edited shots should be put in a 20-page, 10cm x 10cm album.
- A 40-page (80 spreads), 8cm by 8cm or 10cm by 10cm, should feature not more than 60 and 80 pictures, respectively.
- About 80 and 100 images should be put in 100 spreads (50-page), 11cm by 11cm, or 12cm by 12cm conventional wedding albums, respectively.
- If you have several favorite shots that you want to include in the wedding album, you should purchase a bigger one with not less than 80 pages. However, a short wedding storybook having only 20 to 30 pages is the best and most understandable.
Nevertheless, the number of pictures that should be in a wedding album depends on the taste of the couple, what they want to show in the album, the kind of story they want to tell, and the number of pictures or sizes of the album the wedding photographer package includes.
However, the size of your wedding album will depend on the number of photographs you want in the album, how many photos you have, and how much space you want for writing captions. But as a general rule, longer albums are better for formal-style wedding photos like headshots or posed portraits, while shorter albums work best for more candid clicks.
