The Canon EOS R7, announced on the 24th of May 2022, alongside the EOS R10, is one of the most advanced APS-C mirrorless cameras from Canon. The EOS R7 and R10 are Canon’s first APS-C EOS R System mirrorless cameras. The R7 features hybrid technologies and state-of-the-art performance, including high continuous shooting speed and impressive autofocusing ability.
The EOS R7 sports the fastest continuous mechanical shutter of any APC-S EOS camera and offers a maximum of 1/8000th second of mechanical shutter speed and 1/16000th second of the electronic shutter. Thus, the model can effectively freeze fast-moving objects while in motion. Generally, this makes the camera ideal for sports and wildlife photography.

Key Features
An Effective 32.5-megapixel APS-C CMOS Sensor and DIGIC X Processor
The EOS R7 sports a newly designed 32.5MP APS-C CMOS sensor. The APS-C-sized imaging sensor empowers fast continuous shooting with accurate and high-speed autofocus and allows lenses to have more effective telephoto reach.
This makes the R7 more portable and suitable for wildlife photography and sports action. The camera’s DIGIC X image processing engine delivers fast data readout, sharp stills, and videos. The processor also helps remove viewfinder lag for a good shooting experience.
Dual Pixel CMOS AF II System
Similarly to the EOS R10, the R7 sports Canon’s renowned advanced Dual Pixel AF II system, which features 651 automatic AF points that cover the entire sensor for faster and more responsive focusing performance, even in dark situations.
This phase-detection focusing system is designed using deep learning AI. Thus, the EOS r7 can accurately track different subjects ranging from humans to birds and rally cars.
5-Axis In-Body Image Stabilization
Next, the R7 features a 5-axis IBIS with up to 7 stops of unwanted camera shake correction when shooting handheld. The IBIS system can also be paired with compatible lenses featuring optical image stabilization to compensate for up to 8 stops of camera shakes when working without a tripod.
Body Build And Design
The R7 has a robust physical design and features a dust-and-moisture body construction that weighs approximately 530g and 612g with card and battery, according to CIPA standards.
Regarding handling, you can easily find all important buttons and controls under your finger and thumb when holding the camera. The grip feels deep, sturdy, and comfortable, making it ideal for longer handheld shooting.
Viewfinder And Display
It sports a bright, clear 2.36m-dot OLED electronic viewfinder and a 1.62 million dots TFT vari-angle LCD monitor. Both boast approximately 100% frame coverage. This further makes the camera user-friendly and easy to use or operate, especially when clicking photos in the wild.

Image And Video Qualities
The mirrorless EOS R7 delivers brilliant still photos and videos. Its 32.5-megapixel APS-C-sized image sensor produces high-resolution images with edge-to-edge sharpness and intricate details.
Furthermore, the camera can produce high-quality and cinematic internal 4K 60p video using the full width of the sensor and oversampled 4K 30p video from 7K. The R7 also supports Full HD recording at 120p for super smooth motion.
Low Light Performance
The camera has a high sensitivity of ISO 100 to 32,000 (expandable to ISO 50-51,200) thanks to a power sensor and image processor. Hence, the r7 can render extraordinary results with little grain or noise in dark or poorly lit situations. Even at higher sensitivity, the stills and footage appeared sharp and incredible.
Speed Performance
The Canon EOS R7 is exceptionally fast. Its users can continuously click approximately 15fps with the mechanical shutter for about 224 JPEG or 51 RAW images. With the electronic shutter, photographers can capture (continuously) 126 JPEG or 42 RAW photos at approximately 30 frames per second.
Battery Performance
The camera uses a Rechargeable Li-ion LP-E6NH Battery that allows, per charge, approx. 770 shots with the LCD monitor and approx. 500 clicks with the viewfinder. For video recording, the battery permits 90 minutes for Full HD 120/100p and 60 minutes each for 4K 30p HQ and 4K 60p cropped videos. However, the recording time may reduce if the camera’s internal temperature becomes too high.
