Being a grown-up or an adult does not mean that you can not have fun camping or you’re too old to enjoy fun camping games. You’re away from the regular world affairs, you’re far away from your daily boring routine life for a while. No phones, no social media, it would be a good idea to involve yourself in other activities that you do not participate in on usual days. There are many exciting camping activities that adults can enjoy.
I highly doubt that you would be anywhere near bored with these fun games and activities.
Conversation Games for Camping
Sit around the campfire, have some marshmallows and drinks, and play some conversation games. Peaceful, relaxing games that everyone will enjoy.
Two Truths and a Lie
I don’t think there would be anyone who would hate this game. One can have fun playing this game along with getting to know the other people around them better. Definitely an icebreaker for people who are camping together but are complete strangers. You are unaware as to what they have in store for you about themselves.
The gameplay is pretty easy. A player will tell two truths and one lie to other players about themselves. Other players will have to identify or make a guess of the false statement. Pick out the most unique or different statement, chances are that would be the false one about the person. Be creative about your lie statements, you’ll make a memorable evening for yourself.
The Voting Game
Another campfire game, one more way of getting to know your fellow campers, and again break the ice from in between. A player goes around the campfire and asks their question. Anonymous voting by other players is done and the results are matched.
The questions are generally asked in the context of who would do this or who would do that. The answer is normally an assumption about the other person within the camp group.
The game leads up to fun extraordinary stories.
Truth or Dare
The legend has it that truth and dare have been played over centuries and were only played by the powerful ones, the commanders, and the kings.
The player is asked to choose from truth or dare. Whichever he picks, the other players’ questions accordingly.
If truth is chosen, a question is asked that must be answered with a true statement. If a dare is chosen, the player is challenged with a physical dare.
It must be assured that no one gets offended in the game by being asked a personal question or an odd dare is given to that player. The fun must not be ruined.
Would You Rather
A classic game filled with fun. Just like the first two games, you learn interesting things about your fellow camping partners.
The opening words of every question are “Would you rather?” and then the question is followed by interesting content from serious to funny and all the way up to being silly too. Expect silly answers to your silly fun questions.
Never Have I Ever
Again, like other conversation games, you’re becoming friends with people surrounding you, learning unique things about them. It’s sometimes taken as a drinking game too.
What happens is a player keeps his fingers up and another player tells about something they have never done, if you’ve done that thing you put one of your fingers down. If all your fingers are down, you have lost the game.
The player with one last finger up wins the game.
In case drinks are involved, if the others have done that thing they will take a sip of their drinks.
Classic Games for Camping
Charades
One of the most common games played by every age group. Definitely a classic game and loved by every individual be it a kid, teen, or adult.
The chosen player is given a famous name, a movie, a book, or a song name, they have to act it out in order to make other players understand what the name given to them was. The role of other players is to guess the name correctly. The first person to guess the name will get the points and the player with the most points wins the game.
Pass the Pigs
The two model pigs are thrown by the player, each model pig has a dot on one side. The landing of the pigs decides whether the player has gained a point or lost a point. This throwing will continue until the pigs roll out deducting the player’s gained points or until the player chooses to stop taking turns and pass the pigs to another player.
Any Card Game
- Cheat:
What happens is there are four players with an equal number of cards. Player one would put down a card of their choice and say out loud which card is it. It could be a bluff. The other players, if they think it is not really a card as said by player one, will yell, “Cheat”.
The cards are then flipped, if the card is correct, the player who yelled cheat will have to pick out all the cards from the pile. In the case of a bluff by player one, he will have to pick out the cards from the pile.
- UNO:
In order to finish all the cards in your hand, you have to match one of your cards with the card on top of the deck. The cards are matched based on the color or the number on the card. Use special cards such as Skips, Reverses, Draw Twos, and color-changing Wild cards to defeat your opponents sooner. Please remember that you need to shout “UNO!” when you are only left with a single card to declare your win.
- Slapjack:
Sit in a circle at the campsite to play slapjack. Everyone keeps their set of cards facing down with no looking at the deck of the cards. Each player has to draw out a card from the top of the deck and the card is placed at the center of the circle. This continues until one player slaps an incorrect card. Now he or she has to give out their top card from the set to the player who last slapped the card.
Any Board Game
- Bananagrams:
Based on the concept of Scrabble, it is a portable, more compact version of the game. If your opponents are experts with words, you might just be dealing with a challenge. The competition can be lit up really fast. You have to be good with words and spelling or you’ll lose.
The packaging makes it convenient to be carried in the backpack.
- Yahtzee National Parks Edition
It is another level of the dice game practically loved by everyone. It has a national parks theme and the dice do not have numbers on them, instead, there are deer, tent, hiker, pine trees, canoe, and binoculars on the dice. Rolling the dice you get to experience something different and fun at the same time.
Drinking Games for Camping
Sevens
The game begins with calling out the number “one”, the next person would then say the next number, “two”, then the next and this continues. The catch here is that if you say a number with a seven (7) in it or is a multiple of seven, then you gulp down the drink. With increasing numbers the game gets difficult. You can start over as the game gets harder.
I’m Going to the Bar
The gameplay involves one player of the game saying, “I’m going to the bar and I need a beer”. The next player would add, “and a shot of whiskey” to the same sentence.
This adding more order continues until any player gets the order wrong by making up a complicated drink that might not exist.
Active Games for Camping
Capture the Flag
Create 2 teams.
Each team displays its flag in plain view somewhere on its side of the playfield. Each team also defines a jail area that is 10×10 feet – use a rope to define the area.
Players attempt to steal the opposing team’s flag and return it to their side of the centerline without being tagged.
If a camper has the flag and is tagged, the flag is dropped and remains there until another opposing player can steal it.
The tagged camper is held captive by the captor and taken to the jail area. During this activity, the captor doesn’t have the right to capture any other players, and the captive isn’t allowed to resist or attempt to escape.
Once the captive is in jail, it will remain there until the arrival of another teammate who can enter the jail area without being tagged and perform a jailbreak. Decide if a jailbreak allows all captured campers a free walk to their side or a certain number only.
Night Frisbee
Frisbee is everyone’s favorite without a doubt. The days of normal plain frisbees are over, LED-lit frisbees are now available in the market. These light-up frisbees are attractive and fun to play with at the campsite.
Geocaching
GPS tracking is utilized in this high-tech treasure-hunting outdoor game. The gameplay involves downloading the official application and registering yourself at the site. The coordinates for the geocaches near your location will now be visible to you.
You can pick one geocache of your choice. These are situated in public places, private properties, parks, and along hiking trails.
The GPS tracker and the geocaching application help you navigate your coordinates.
The geocache boxes will be in a variety of sizes and shapes but are small usually and could be made of any solid material camouflaged in the surroundings but would not be buried.
After finding the box, recording the visit in the log book is required.
Hide & Seek
There are hiders and seekers. While the seekers count to a specific number while the hiders find places to hide. After the counting is over, the seekers begin to look for the ones hiding. The first one to be found by the seeker will be the net seeker.
Paintball
The players are divided into teams. Each team competes with the other team by hitting them with paint-filled balloons or pellets fired from a compressed gas-powered gun.
Slacklining
A piece of webbing stretched between two points on which walking or running while balancing is called slacklining.
Build a Fire
Building up a campfire is another fun activity for the campers. The first thing to be done is the search for a safe spot or place where the fire is to be built. Once you’ve gotten the desired location, you set a layer of tinder bed at the base. The tinder is supposed to be small in size and must be dry for a quickfire catch. Now kindling is added on top of the tinder bed. As soon as there’s a spark in the Kindle, the fire is built up. Now you’ve set up your campfire.
Storytelling
Sit around the campfire in the darkness of the night and begin your storytelling activity. Storytelling at the campsites usually includes scary stories to make the other fellow campers scared.
It’s a fun activity to participate in while you’re camping and staying the night.
Read a Book
The peace and quiet of nature and a book can never go wrong together. Either you can involve your fellow campers in the activity of reading a book aloud or you can read a book on your own. Either way, book reading is another fun activity.
Photography
You’re surrounded by nature and having the best time of your life, how about capturing moments? Photography is an interesting hobby and you have got to be skilled to capture a decent photograph. You have the place and the moments which shouldn’t be wasted.
